About Corum and the $20 Coin Watch:
Corum was founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1955 by Gaston Ries and René Bannwart. The brand became known for unconventional luxury watch designs, with the $20 Gold Coin Watch becoming one of its most recognizable creations.
Introduced in the 1960s, the Corum $20 Gold Coin Watch uses an authentic U.S. Liberty Head double eagle gold coin as the foundation of the watch design. The coin is carefully adapted to house the movement, with one side serving as the dial and the other forming the case back. Each example is tied to the specific date and type of coin used, giving the watch both numismatic and horological interest.
This example uses an 1895-dated U.S. $20 Liberty Head double eagle coin, from the final decade of the Liberty Head double eagle series. The reverse side with the American bald eagle serves as the dial, while the Liberty Head obverse is visible on the case back. Combined with its 18K yellow gold coin-edge case, integrated 18K bracelet, diamond-set crown, original boxes, unsigned paperwork, and substantial 122.8-gram assembled weight, this Corum offers a strong presentation for collectors of gold coin watches, Corum timepieces, and numismatic jewelry watches.
